Pankhurst (Year 6)
In maths we will be covering the following:
- Converting units
- Perimeter, area and volume
For our literacy lessons we are going cross curricular once again and we will be studying Journey to the River Sea which is a story set in 1910 about an orphaned girl who starts a new life in South America and gets drawn into high adventure deep in the Amazon rainforest. Our writing will be based around themes and ideas from the book including diary writing, poetry and narratives.
Following the study of this text we will read and complete activities based on the book Pax which is the story of a friendship between a boy and a fox.
In our topic lessons we will cover art, DT and geography comparing Rio de Janiro to Dover. We will create maps and use the internet to find out more about the climate, geographical features and how the areas have changed. Our art work will incorporate our literacy book Pax and we will complete a study on Jon Klassen, creating sketches and drawings in the style of his illustrations.
Our science units will begin with Animals including Humans and move onto Living Things and Their Habitats. We will make links within these units to our overall topic.
We will continue with our reading afternoons focusing on the curriculum strands for reading and applying this to questions from previous SATs papers.
Our PE units are swimming and gymnastics. These lessons will be on Monday afternoons so please ensure your child comes to school with appropriate PE/swimming kit. Earrings should be removed before PE so please make sure your child is able to do this, or that they do not wear these on a Monday.
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school every day which can be filled at the start of the day, playtime and lunchtime. Every other day we will be taking part in the 15 minute move along with the rest of the school. Please could you ensure that your child comes to school with old shoes that they can get muddy.
