How old should your child be when they start school?

A school year runs from 1st September in one calendar year to 31st August in the next, so children who will reach compulsory school age during the school year 2021 / 2022 are those born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017.

Kent County Council's Application Process for September 2021

Primary school applications opened on 5 November 2020 and closed at midnight on the evening of 15 January 2021.

Applications needed to be submitted by 15 January 2021 for your child to be guaranteed an offer of a school place on 16 April 2021.

If you have already submitted your application and need to make any amendments, please contact kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk for further information on what you need to do next.

If you missed the deadline, you can still submit an application for a school place for September 2021. Once you have submitted, you will receive an email confirming when this school place will be offered. Further information can be found on KCC's website.

f you are unable to apply online please email kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk for an alternative method.

If a parent has applied online they will receive an email after 4pm on 16 April 2021 telling them which school they have been offered.  Parents can also log in from 5pm on 16 April 2021 to view the offer online.  A letter will be sent posted out first class.

If you are unhappy with the offer

View the schools website to find out more about it.

If you are still unhappy you can put your child on the waiting list or make an appeal for any of the schools you applied for.

f your child is due to start primary school in September 2021 you can appeal between 16th April -17 May 2021 to guarantee that your appeal will be heard by 16 July 2021.   For applications made in the normal admission round, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.  For late applications, appeals should be heard within 40 schools days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 schools days of the appeals being lodged.

We recommend that you still accept the place your child has been offered. This will not affect your waiting list position or your appeal. It will guarantee your child has a school place if no places become available or if your appeal is unsuccessful.

In year application

Transfer from school to school can occur at any time in the school year.

The above form should be printed and returned to the school together with proof of age and address of the child.  You need to fill in a separate form for each child. The application will be processed and a letter sent advising of the outcome.

Once admission has been agreed, contact is made with the child’s previous school to ensure the transfer of assessments and data.

As an ‘inclusive school’ we make no distinctions on admission on the grounds of race, faith, nationality, gender or disability. We are, however, mindful of the importance of ensuring that we are able to meet the ‘educational and emotional needs’ of all the children in our care. We would, therefore, seek to secure the appropriate resources for a pupil with identified needs, including, if necessary, supporting parents to apply for an EHCP.

At the discretion of the authority some children may be offered priority places because of their perceived needs, or the school may be named directly in a statement of educational needs.

If you don't live in Kent: you are free to apply directly to a Kent school using the same In Year Common Application Form but may wish to contact your Local Authority to keep them informed.

If you would like more information about joining our school please contact Mrs Julie Martin, Admissions, by telephone or by email at julie.martin@greenlandsprimary.org.uk

You can find further information about the in year application process on the Kent County Council website.
